A CANDIDATE FOR THE SUMMIT
There are performers whose roll of honour do not reflect their true value. David du Berlais is one of them. A horse with great potential, he did not have time to reveal his full talent. Nevertheless, in four starts at the age of three, he beat the best of his generation in the Prix des Platanes (Listed) at Auteuil before he was obliged to retire due to injury. There are also performers whose popularity and success at stud (and vice versa) seem evident. Once again, David du Berlais figures at the top of the list. This son of retired patriarch Saint des Saints is out of King’s Daughter, a Group winner at Auteuil before becoming a blue hen. She has notably given birth to Goliath du Berlais, whose name figures in the top three of French jumps sires. David du Berlais' itinerary is set to take him to the top, following in his brother's footsteps. He covered 279 mares during his first two breeding seasons and is ranked among the top 10 busiest stallions in France in 2025. His book is also solid in quality, featuring mares such as Gr.3 winner Eludy, Jalisca du Berlais, out of Gr.1 Prix Cambacérès victrix Chimère du Berlais, or Kaplina, a sister of Oculi (Gr.1 Prix Ferdinand Dufaure and Maurice Gillois) and talented sire Jeu St Eloi. As for his first foals, born this spring, they have been well-received and further validate their father’s credentials as a candidate to reach the summit.
